Rosemary

Description

Rosemary, sometimes referred to using its scientific name of Salvia rosmarinus. It is a woody perennial herb because of, and is often grown as a small shrub in garden borders. The plant is evergreen and has fragrant leaves, the flowers range from whites through to purple to blue.  The flowers are bee and hover fly friendly.

The leaves are a greyish green colour. Because of the leaf shade, it is often used as a decorative plant and may help with pest control in the garden.

Rosemary is also a member of the mint family. The heavily scented Rosemary is used to flavour Lamb dishes and is often paired with mint too.

Uses for Rosemary.

• Pot-pourri.
• Adding to meat dishes for flavour.
• Soap making, added for scent.
• Some perfumes are made using its oil.
• Sometimes used as an incense.
• Chocolatiers have been known to add it to chocolate for a unique flavour.

A hardy plant which can grow up to 140 centimetres high. Also, possible to grow in containers or tubs. It does however prefer a sunny position. It is also fairly drought tolerant, however do not let container plants dry out. After flowering, trim back because this helps keep the plant bushy. Plants can live to 25 years or more.
