Tiger Flower Seeds

Tiger Flower also known as the Mexican Shell Flower. It is a bulb that produces visually stunning flowers, usually from July to August. When each flower dies, another will bloom.

Each flower is approximately 3 to 5 inches (12.7 cm) in diameter, obviously this is dependent on the age of the plant. Triangular shaped petals and a colourful mottled pattern appears nearer to the centre of the flower.

It is best to plant Mexican Shell Flowers in clumps. This ensures the display of the flowers creates a visually stunning show in the summer months. After flowering the plants will die back, this is normal. Do not cut the leaves, because while they are dying, all the energy goes back into the bulb.

They prefer a sunny position with well-drained soil. Look amazing planted in patio tubs.

While they are easy to care for and fairly hardy, it is advisable to take them out of the patio tubs if the forecast is for a hard winter. The bulbs will tolerate down to -3 °C. To store the bulbs, place them in wood shavings in a cool place and away from any vermin.

Once they have become established, after about 2 -3 years, it is possible to divide the bulbs.

The plants are well-known for their resilience to damage from grazing animals.

Caring for seeds.

Plant the seeds in well-drained compost in a seed tray. The seeds will take about a month to germinate. Once the plants are about 3 inches (7.62 cm) high, and transplant to a bigger pot ready for planting in the garden during the spring.
