Scientific Name – Viola Odorata, commonly known as Wood Violet, Sweet Violet, English Violet, Common Violet, Florist’s Violet, or Garden Violet. It is a charming plant that grows wild in hedgerows and woodlands.

It naturalizes to form a good-sized clump over time and serves as excellent ground cover, emitting a delightful fragrance.
This versatile plant thrives in semi-shade or full shade conditions, preferring well-draining and fertile soil. With a height of approximately 15 cm, it adds a touch of beauty to any garden.

It is important to note that consuming the roots and seeds of this plant should be avoided because they are toxic. On the other hand, people traditionally used the flowers as a flavouring in puddings and sweets, and they also crystallized the flowers to create edible decorations. Looks fantastic when planted next to Cowslips or Orchids. They also look amazing when planted in a lawn adding a punch of purple/lilac colour to a green lawn.
